KIFF:I'm Queen of the... wait, What?... & how does W101 inform the public and gain new wizards? 6/12
Just a note before we begin, the planet Antario was created by my Venture (writing class for dyslexic students) teacher & me way back in 1995. I'm using this as an example of a fictional nation. Also this blog will attempt to stay bias free.
Outside the Spiral
More than likely you're fed up with the way things are run in RL (gamerspeak for real life) and think you can do better if you're handed the reins. Or maybe you just want to escape reality and create your own city/world/planet/universe where you are the ruler/deity/sovereign. There are games for that.
On Facebook for example, the Zynga games of Pioneer Trail, Castleville, Cityville and any other *.Ville that the red dog logo'd company can come up with, allow the player to create their own virtual "Homestead" (Pioneer Trail), "Kingdom" (Castleville), "City" (Cityville) where with the help of free gifts from neighbors and the friendly NPCs giving you quests to advance the storyline you rule the world.
But if that doesn't satisfy the World Domination urge, there are games where you have total control of every aspect. Such games are like The SimCity games by EA/Maxis.
Screwattack's own Nervous Nick did a hillarious review of SimCity 2000.
Video Game Vault - SimCity 2000
Other games in this genre are "Command & Conquer" "Warcraft" and the "Age of Empires" series.
In any of the aforementioned games one of the first things you have to do is give your "----" a name.
Let's call our new nation "Antario" (read the note before the beginning of the blog for why I chose this name)
in a game called Nationstates you can name your nation, choose it's flag, government/history...
Inside the Spiral
The closest example of "War is Hell" is the world of Dragonspyre.
In the penultimate world of the Malistare Story arc Dragonspyre was home to the prestegious Dragonspyre Academy where young wizards could learn more advanced spells and the art of dragonriding. However many years ago, the dragon titan attacked and decimated the world. Now any wizard who goes there will see the devistation caused by the titan army and help the spirits of the victims find peace.
If there had been a network such as "Muzzlebook" or "Flutter" More citizens could have survived and the world could have been saved.
Dragonmaster Castamir Silverdrake posts on "Flutter" that he 'intercepted a transmission from the titan army saying that they'll attack on such & such a date'
Any riders who follow him on Flutter get the message and ready their drakes to prepare for war...
He also posts on Muzzlebook, anyone who reads the post takes action...
and Dragonspyre is better protected.
It doesn't turnout that way, but social media is one way Kingsisle gets the latest info out to the public.
Kingsisle has a Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube channels.
The latest News is also posted on the log in screen so that young wizards know what's going on as they enter the game.
See ya in the Spiral

Great example and great way to connect influence and politics to gaming.
